“This is the story of a girl...the day she remembered who she is, and the first time the world forgot to honor her... until now.”

                                                                                                                                                                                           — The Unforgetting

Hey, I’m Zola.

I’m just like you nervous about growing up, curious about what’s next, and learning how to be proud of who I am.

Want to see what happens when my family helps me celebrate something I thought I had to hide?”

A story for every girl, everywhere.

About the Film

The Unforgetting is a short animated film that follows Zola, a young girl who believes she is facing the worst day of her life when she starts her first period at school. Through the support of her family, community, and a sacred rite of passage, she discovers that this moment is not an ending, but a powerful beginning. The film celebrates girlhood, honors menstrual rites long forgotten, and reclaims them as moments of pride, belonging, and joy.

What is the Flowroot Rite?

A modern rite of passage celebrating the first cycle.
